A natural site of great biodiversity

The Landes are located in the municipalities of Billé, Parcé and Combourtillé. Extending over 4 municipalities, the Jaunouse Landes site is an environment of great ecological richness, made up of woods, moors, more or less humid meadows and raised bogs called “sphagnum”, installed on the site of former iron ore quarries exploited in the Middle Ages.

A rare flora specific to the wet Landes

The sphagnum (swamp mosses) are usually brightly colored, reddish or brownish, hence the name red swamp sometimes given to these bogs. This type of environment is increasingly rare and threatened.
The presence of wet moors may correspond either to a stage of degradation of the forest installed in a humid environment, or to a stage of progressive evolution of peat bogs in the process of drying out. The two dominant plants are the four corner briar and blue molinia associated withdwarf gorse in english broom, heather, creeping willow and moorland orchid.

Birds, cows, horses… A whole fauna to preserve

The diversity of environments makes it possible to find the sector that suits them to feed and reproduce. 56 species of'birds have thus been listed, of which thesparrowhawk, common buzzard, kestrel, hobereau falcon...
The Jaunouse moors are wetlands that require appropriate management for their fragility. Grazing in certain areas is carried out with two hardy domestic species: Highland Castle cows and Poitou mule horses.
