Let's take a walk in the woods... Only a few minutes from the historic center of Fougères, National Forest of Fougères calls you: nothing like a ride in wilderness to let little legs stretch and the whole family breathe in the fresh air. Smell the smells of the undergrowth, observe the varieties of trees, pick up leaves in autumn, build cabins...

In any season, stroll through the heart of this old royal forest to contemplate the fauna and flora, but also to discover the various monuments and unmissable places of this wooded territory steeped in history.

Of stones crossed more than 5000 years to testify to the presence of the men.
In the middle of the trees appears an alignment that is exceptional to say the least: the Cord of the Druids which, made up of 50 quartz menhirs, stretches over a row of 300 meters. Don't miss discovering one of the jewels of the Fougères forest: the Pierre Courcoulee, dolmen which comes straight from the Neolithic era !

A crowded forest!

The massif is mainly populated by beeches, renowned for the manufacture of clogs, so clog makers settled there from the Middle Ages!

The forest bears witness to its complicity with the history of mankind through various vestiges, to be discovered during your visit, such as Les Celliers de Landéan or the Cordon des Druides!

Within the forest of Fougères is also the Chênedet leisure center, where young and old can practice different outdoor activities such as mountain biking, archery, canoeing, etc. Sand castle and splashing on its waterfront beach, the children will be in heaven! In summer, walks in poney are possible.

From the beginning of October to the end of February, the forest is rented for hunting on Mondays and Thursdays from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. Consult the 2023-2024 hunting calendar and zones published by the National Forestry Office (ONF)

At the gates of Bazouges-la-Perouse stands the Villecartier National Forest. This massif of 1000 hectares, brings together two facets of forests: on the one hand a forest full of activities for children and sportsmen, and on the other hand a wooded area in the wild.

Villecartier Forest today offers the beauty and calm of a high forest of beech and oak. Thanks to the marked trails, lovers of hiking go back to the past of the forest while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings. At the heart of the massif, thepond of the same name deserves a stop.

Under sustainable management since 1787, is home to a diversity of species in regular high forest and micro-habitats where no less than 16 species of Bats have taken up residence! To discover the primitive forest, several solutions are available to you:

  • Borrow it "Path of Monuments" for a total immersion in the heart of nature: throughout your walk, you can contemplate the biodiversity while letting yourself be surprised by the remnants of the past such as the Column of the Chouans, the Auge of the Sabotiers or the Saint-Mathurin Oratory! 2h45 of walking are to be expected.
  • Go explore the forest in the wild : passing by paths in natural terrain suitable for motor vehicles and you can immerse yourself in the woods off the paths. In the spring, the luckiest will be able to contemplate the undergrowth and its soft houlque scented with Lily of the Valley while looking for the dead wood which shelters a rich and preserved fauna. Listen carefully and you will be able to hear the cry of the Jay, the tapping of woodpecker and the song of tits...
