Fancy a getaway? Let's go to discover our beautiful destination!
Fougères, a medieval town in Ille-et-Vilaine, is one of the must-see places in Brittany. Follow the guide to prepare your visit!

Fougères, a “favorite” town

On arrival at Fougères, approaching the medieval quarter, we are blown away by the imposing fortress. We choose to start our exploration with a walk with the Little Tourist Train. A good way to immerse yourself in the history of the city and get a first glimpse of its riches. The circuit is well thought out and, although Fougères is a complex city, it can easily be understood thanks to the comments. But the walk has a real crush in store: the public garden and its breathtaking view of the castle, the medieval quarter and the surrounding countryside. Unique !

Back on the castle square, we continue our visit with a walk through the flower gardens of Val Nançon. "The best way to reach the Ville Haute from the castle" confided to us the travel advisors of the Destination Fougères Tourist Office. “You will arrive at the feet of the Galon Ar Breizh restaurant. It is one of the best restaurants in the region, distinguished by a Gault et Millau toque”. At 12:30 p.m., we are seated at the table we had reserved. The service is simple and refined, just like the products on the plate.

I reserve a table...

After lunch, we walk the National Street, crossed this morning with the Little Tourist Train. We take the time to stop at Belfry, to admire the facades of private mansions and to visit the magnificent St. Leonard's Church.
The alleys of public garden guide us to the heart of the medieval quarter. We meander through the alleys lined with old houses. Do not miss the visit of theSaint-Sulpice church. If you have the eye, you may find the stained glass window with Mélusine!
And it's finally time to take on the impregnable fortress and its history! You will be able to follow a visit with a funny and passionate guide who gives us a surprising version of local history. Memorable!

Relaxation on the terrace

At the end of the day, the light on the castle ramparts and the Upper Town is magnificent. We take the time for an aperitif on the terrace on Place Raoul II to make the most of the magic of the moment.

Did you know?

The Château de Fougères, built in the XNUMXth century, is one of the best preserved castles in Europe.

The discovery tour of the city so you don't miss a thing

Public Garden, Ferns

To explore the city, it is best to follow the “discovery circuit”. It will make you discover the emblematic places and will allow you to appreciate the typical Fougères houses and alleys. You will also pass through the magnificent Val Nançon garden, very flowery in all seasons.

To enjoy an original point of view, go to the garden of the ramparts, rue de la Pinterie. You will then benefit from an atypical panorama of the castle and the medieval quarter.
