Les buttes de Monthault

Here is a granitic chaos, quite common in Brittany, dated 542 million years. The top of the mound offers a landscape of undergrowth dotted with rocks, more or less rounded granite balls. Some have remained in their natural state, others are split, witnesses of exploitation by quarrymen. One of them is perfectly smooth, certainly because of the legend which says that the young girls who let themselves slide there are guaranteed to get married within the year!
The afforestation is essentially made up of chestnut trees, a few rare oaks and beeches, but also conifers (Douglas fir) along the access road to the chapel.

The statue of Notre-Dame-de-La-Délivrance, 2,40 m high, is a major place of pilgrimage.

This site is a natural space, owned by the Department of Ille-et-Vilaine, which ensures its maintenance. This former 2,5 hectare quarry has been enhanced by a parking area, paths, and replantings which make it a pleasant place for walks.
