Description
Before setting off, take advantage of the many shops and
services in the town center of Louvigné-du-Désert to supply you. Along the way, treat yourself to a friendly stopover in one of the cafés of Mellé and Monthault and let yourself be charmed by these characterful villages.
Your itinerary
Stage 1: La Chapelle manor in Louvigné-du-Désert
This important mansion located rue d'Alsace dates from the 15th century. In the 18th century it became a farm and then successively housed a girls' school, an orphanage and a retirement home. After the Second World War, it again became a school and a boarding school for girls until 1972. Between 2001 and 2003, it experienced a new phase of restoration. Since then, it has housed the municipal media library, the services of Louvigné Community, now Fougères Agglomeration, and the “Maison du Canton” social center. The building still houses remarkable vaulted cellars and a very large granite fireplace.
Stage 2: VD5 – Fougères greenway – Louvigné-du-Désert
This circuit runs partly on an old railway line rehabilitated as a greenway. A link between Fougères and Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, the VD5 covers about twenty kilometres. With its low gradient and its access reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, it is ideal for family cycling.
Stage 3: The Melleco space in Mellé
In Mellé, do not miss the visit of the Melléco space, located behind the church. Sound testimonials, educational terminals, films for young and old will make you discover in a fun way how to preserve biodiversity in your garden, better control energy in your habitat and how the village of Mellé promotes "better living together".
Stage 4: Secrets de Vallée in Monthault
In Monthault, take a short break to discover the “Secrets de Vallée” trail. This 1 km route, punctuated by fun and sensory stations, reveals in a playful way all the secrets of this endearing natural space. A real rendezvous with nature, take advantage of the resting places set up to sit, lie down, cross, listen, touch or even observe this wonderful wetland that provides us with such great services.
Stage 5: Château de la Touche in Louvigné-du-Désert
Go up a few meters on your left on rue Monseigneur Gry to see this castle. In the middle of the 19th century, when the granite business was going through a phase of recession, a granite boss from Mellé, in order not to leave his workers in misery, offered them for a very reduced salary to build a large-scale building in castle-like. The stone is extracted from the hill which overlooks the building. The impressive number of elements inspired by the architecture of mansions, such as the skylights or the granite spiral staircases, testifies to a remarkable know-how. But the work was hard and the workers baptized this great building "the castle of Pain-Sec". R
