Step 1: You said "Jaunouse"
Why “Jaunouse”? The moors of Jaunouse take their name from the yellow color of the gorse that grows on this natural site of 70 hectares.
Step 2: From ponds to basins
Scattered in the woods, artificial basins evoke the presence of old iron ore quarries, exploited in the Middle Ages. Elsewhere, ponds stand out from the landscape. In the past, they were used as watering troughs, washhouses, bathing places, reserves against fires, breeding fish and ducks… Many of them have disappeared. However, they remain very useful in the fight against floods and the preservation of biodiversity.
Step 3: Mulassier horses, natural clippers
With its peat bogs and wetlands that have become rare and threatened, the Jaunouse moors are the focus of all attention. Here, maintenance is done in an ecological way. Mulassier horses from Poitou, a hardy breed well suited to this type of environment, take part in the mowing and brush clearing. Agreements associate local farmers with the maintenance by mowing or grazing of the many meadows of the site.
