Step 1: The Saint-Lézin fountain
The Saint-Lézin fountain is dedicated to Saint-Lézin, bishop in Angers between 592 and 608 and patron saint of the parish. At its top, a niche houses the statue of the saint. This fountain has long served as the only drinking water point for the inhabitants of the town. It was repaired in 1902 and 1951.
Step 2: The GR 37
This circuit partly follows the route of the GR© 37, a 783 km hiking route between Le Mont Saint-Michel and Camaret-sur-Mer. From the bucolic landscapes of Ille-et-Vilaine, passing through the legendary forest of Brocéliande, the Nantes-Brest canal, the Monts d'Arrée and finally the northern coast of the Crozon peninsula, this route immerses you in the heart of inland Brittany.
Step 3: The border between Maine and Brittany
This path has not always been peaceful. Marking the border between Maine and Brittany, it was, in the 18th century, the privileged witness to the smuggling of salt and the perpetual guerrilla warfare between the gabelous and the faux-sauniers.
Step 4: The village of Le Gué
In the village of Le Gué, there is a typical house of rural notables from the 16th and 17th centuries with its fire room upstairs (bedroom) and its facade richly decorated with regular stones and windows decorated with geometric patterns or a twist.
Stage 5: The Saint-Lézin church
Originally a Benedictine priory, the Saint-Lézin church is not to be missed. It dates partly from the 16th century and was remodeled until the 18th century. The door of the south transept is sculpted with instruments of the Passion, in the Breton Renaissance style. It also contains remarkable classified furniture: altarpieces, stained glass windows illustrating the Annunciation and the Dormition of the Virgin from the 16th century and baptismal fonts from the 14th century. Finally, the choir is decorated with a fresco by the painter Louis Garin representing Blessed Julien Maunoir, evangelizer of Upper Brittany.
