Your itinerary
Step 1: At the origin of the parish of Fleurigné
Tradition reports that the center of the parish of Fleurigné was originally in the village of L'Hourre. A priory was founded there in the 12th century by the abbey of Rillé de Fougères. Today, there is no trace of this building.
Step 2: Crossroads
Formerly communication routes, pilgrimage, wedding or smuggling paths, the sunken paths lined with embankments and trees are, today, wandering links witnessing the history and geography of the Breton bocage landscape.
Stage 3: 17th century rural housing in the Pays de Fougères
The old Gambertière farm dates from the 17th century as evidenced by its two semi-circular arched doors with basket handles, its chamfered openings on the first floor and the remains of a granite cornice, typical of the Fougères region. Comprising two separate rooms, a kitchen and a heated bedroom, as early as the 17th century, the primary function of this building was perhaps not that of a farm but of housing for someone quite well off.
Step 4: Montbrault Castle
Perched in the distance on its promontory, the Château de Montbrault dominates the Fougères countryside. It was built in 1903 with stones from the old 14th century castle. A magnificent granite statue of Saint Anne is present on the entrance facade. The site now hosts prestigious guest rooms.
Stage 5: 20th century rural housing in the Pays de Fougères
In Coulaine, there are three characteristic farms from the beginning of the 20th century. The farmhouse, made up of a series of buildings attached to each other with one or two parts dedicated to housing and additional buildings linked to operations.
Step 6: Saint-Martin Church
Don't miss the discovery of the exterior of the Saint-Martin church. Built in the 17th century, inspired by Italian architectural forms, it offers an excellent example of the architecture of the reign of Louis XIV.
