Step 1: The town center of Monthault
Built around its church, the village of Monthault has retained its former layout and today provides us with treasures of rural architecture. Many houses date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, some of which have particularities typical of the Fougères region: staircase towers on the rear facade, semi-circular doors, few bays on the facade, steep roof slopes, etc.
Step 2: The Rock of Monthault
“If you come to Monthault, don't forget to go up there”. Up there at the Rocher de Monthault, in the heart of this site filled with spirituality and mystery, there is no doubt that the magic of the place will operate. Here, nestled in their wooded setting, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Délivrance chapel and its Stations of the Cross see the prayers of men rise every year. This tradition makes Monthault an important place of pilgrimage in the region today. The site also has four legendary stones, including "the crying rock", on which the young girls came to "scream", that is to say, slide in order to obtain a marriage in the year.
Step 3: The Valley of Bois Ainaux
Formerly a granite quarry and then an agricultural exploitation, the Bois Ainaux valley is today a haven of peace for the fauna and flora of wetlands. The "Valley Secrets" trail and its 5 discovery stations provides a better understanding of the relationships woven between the valley and people over time and the role of this protected natural area. Take advantage of the deckchairs and benches to observe and listen to nature.
