Stage 1: The Poulailler crossroads
Formerly at this crossroads there was an old beech tree at the foot of which people laid eggs to attract luck, good grace and healing. By dint of seeing eggs there, we gave this place the name Poulailler. Since then, the tree has been replaced by a cross, the Fouteau du Poulailler cross. Near the crossroads, the Courbes forest road leads to it (100 m).
Step 2: The Nançon River
The Nançon river has its source in Louvigné-du-Désert and flows into the Couesnon. It waters the town of Fougères and supplies the moat of the Château de Fougères.
Step 3: The forest of Fougères, beech grove of Brittany
With its 1600 ha, the Fougères forest is the largest beech forest in Brittany. It produces more than 9000 m3 of wood per year, used for firewood, the manufacture of furniture, paper pulp... and the essential clogs! At the beginning of the 20th century more than a hundred clog makers lived in the forest cutting down wood. Installed in huts or “lodges”, these artisans shaped the beech. The last clog maker still works today in Parigné.
Stage 4: The Pierre Courcoulée dolmen
The Pierre Courcoulée dolmen has been resting here since the Neolithic period. It is a covered walkway that consists of twelve pillars and a table now broken in two.
