What a pleasure to stroll through the alleys of this town labeled “Small City of Character®”. Located between Brittany and Normandy, Bazouges-la-Pérouse was renowned as a place of exchange for millennia.

A city witness to a remarkable historical heritage

At the top of the city, you can visit a double church! Both St. Peter and St. Paul churches were attached. See how their six naves have been joined together. In the 19th century, the whole of the church was transformed and we can now appreciate a beautiful glass roof.

Bazouges-La-Pérouse, Grimacing Masks

If you pass Place de la Mairie, you will come across the imposing Colombier Manor which was the probable residence of the ancient lords of the Region.
As you head towards the monument square, which dates from 1604, you will have to look on the facade of the House of the Hanged strange grimacing masks!
We know that the King's Prosecutor had a house there, you will recognize it by its richly decorated corner window.

What is a "Small City of Character®”?

The “Petite Cité de Caractère®” label was born in Brittany in 1975 in the desire to promote municipalities with a remarkable heritage and wishing to preserve it.

Today the network of Small Towns of Character® has more than 200 towns in France, including 28 in Brittany.

The local culinary specialty is the Pomme!

Every autumn in Bazouges-La-Pérouse we perpetuate a local tradition which dates from the XNUMXth century… We are preparing the pommé!

Le Apple is a cider apple reduction. To achieve this product, typical of Upper Brittany, the mixture is heated for long hours in a huge copper container: “la péle” placed in the hearth on a tripod. The fire must be constantly maintained and supervised so that the cooking is regular. Apples are regularly poured into it and the whole thing is stirred (“ramaougé” in Gallo), without stopping for 12 to 20 hours! The product thus obtained is soft, sweet or sour and can be stored for a long time.

Thanks to the Association The Ramougeries of Pommé, the tradition is perpetuated from year to year!
