Couesnon Valley

The walk along the Couesnon Valley is accessible from several places, however we recommend that you start your walk by going on the D102 between Saint-Ouen-des-Alleux and Mézières-sur-Couesnon. When you arrive, you will culminate the valley and can slowly begin your descent towards the valley.
Time stands still and you admire the view of the river which flows gently through the wooded furrow, promising you a beautiful trip to the heart of a great diversity of landscapes: groves, forests and valleys thus form a magnificent mosaic along the Couesnon. You can then start your walk by taking the path on the shore, where the granite cliffs mix with the wild nature.


In Spring, on the wooded slopes of beeches, oaks and chestnuts, you will be able to contemplate the hyacinths and wood luzules. As you stroll, you will appreciate the harmonious singing of the finches, chickadees, robins…Be discreet and you may be lucky enough to see one of the red squirrels who have taken up residence in this majestic place.

The Couesnon Valley

In 1488, it is reported that thebreton army stationed in the Couesnon Valley the day before his defeat at Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier against the French army. HAS Mezieres-Sur-Couesnon stands on Castle of the City Olivier, rebuilt in 1820, where Napoleon III stopped as part of his visit to the inauguration of Rennes station.

In the 17th Century, the Couesnon River, whose water was devoid of limestone housed about twenty paper mills! the Moulin aux Moines and Moulin de Guyon still bear witness to this period which preceded the installation of grain mills.
