the Surprise of Fougères which will take place from 6 au 9 juillet 2023, is a project born from the collaboration of several associations: La marching band drums of the Pays de Fougères, the company of Flambard Theater and association Put yourself on stage. Taking place within the confines of the sumptuous Fougeres castle, the event will be split into two spaces, one part will be dedicated to the host village and the other to the show itself.

A two-part event
A medieval village at the gates of Brittany
Open from 18 p.m. on weekdays et 17 p.m. on weekends, the host village will be free for all visitors. Composed of a medieval market, the latter will offer fresh and guaranteed local products. Animated by interventions and shows of historical evocation, you will be able to admire captivating fights, enjoy medieval music, participate in lively dances, marvel at poignant theater performances, all with a historical reconstruction fund.
A refreshment bar as well as a on-site catering will be available to refresh and refuel you.
A unique show combining humor and history
Articulated around a historical fact of the city in 1449, La Sur…prise de Fougères is a real performing Arts transporting its spectator in a performance combining music, comedy and theatre. Distinguishing itself from a pure interpretation of history, discover here a revisit strewn with pranks, laughter and music.
The show will be performed live in front of you by around fifty extras, around forty musicians and around ten actors who will offer you an exceptional performance.
A completely original scenario
March 1449, the 100 years war has had a truce for 4 years. François de Surienne, commissioned by the English, takes the city of Fougères, the richest border town of the Marches of Brittany, by surprise, which ends the truce and triggers the last part of the 100 Years War. The Duke of Brittany, allied with France, takes over the city after two months of siege. François de Surienne then rallied to France.
